Addis Ababa, Ethiopia –  The Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) today announced a leadership transition with the resignation of its Founding Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Tilahun Esmael Kassahun. The Board of Directors has appointed Mrs. Yodit Kassa as Chief Executive Officer.

As the Founding CEO, Dr. Tilahun led the Exchange from its inception to becoming a fully-fledged securities exchange, leaving behind an enduring legacy in institution building and market development. His leadership was instrumental in establishing the foundations of Ethiopia’s securities market and positioning ESX as a trusted institution serving issuers, investors and the broader financial sector.

During his tenure, ESX successfully brought together stakeholders across government, domestic and foreign investors completing a landmark capital raise, putting place the governance, talent, technological and operational foundations.  Dr. Tilahun also cultivated strong relationships with shareholders, regulators, market participants, development partners and other stakeholders whose trust and support have been instrumental to ESX’s progress. Today, ESX is growing to become a multi-faceted market infrastructure institution that mobilizes capital, expand access to finance and supports Ethiopia’s broader financial sector development.

Perhaps his greatest contribution has been the institution he leaves behind. Throughout his leadership, he invested in developing people, empowering teams, and creating an environment where talent could grow and thrive. By nurturing future leaders and fostering a culture of professionalism, collaboration and innovation, he has ensured that ESX is well-positioned to continue building on the strong foundations established under his leadership.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, management and staff, ESX extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Tilahun for his vision, dedication and leadership in establishing Ethiopia’s securities market.

ESX is also pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Yodit Kassa as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Mrs. Yodit has been part of the ESX journey since its project phase and has played a leading role in building the institution from the beginning. She previously served as Chief Business Officer before assuming the role of Chief Operating Officer, where she helped shape the Exchange’s operations, market development and strategic growth. Her appointment reflects both continuity and confidence in the future of ESX.

As Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Yodit will lead ESX into its next phase of growth, advancing key initiatives currently underway. This next phase will focus on expanding the issuer base, increasing market participation, broadening investment opportunities, introducing new products and market segments, strengthening market infrastructure, and advancing Ethiopia’s capital markets as a catalyst for investment, innovation and economic transformation.
